Mike grew up skateboarding in Goleta, eventually turning pro in the mid 90’s where he toured the country skating alongside some of the biggest names in the industry. Today he teaches skateboarding lessons in his home town Santa Barbara & Goleta, and provides coaching to all ages and skill levels. Learn more here.

Pretty much have no words right now seeing this… I turned pro Labor Day weekend 1992. My board came out somewhere between Nov. ‘92 and Jan.’93 so to see this after nearly 30 years has me speechless as it is something I’ve wanted to do for the last 12 years. Honored and humbled to see it being produced from @primewood.la on the original presses from which it came from!! Thank you Scott!! More to come!

Running our first test today for @mikesantarossa reissue of his first pro model graghic! Mike and I met in the 90’s through Rob Washburn who at the time was a sales rep for Powell. When Mike showed up at our demos in the PNW, he always killed it to say the least. His quiet demeanor and humble personality would allways catch people by surprise after seeing how sick and powerful he skated! Since this deck was originally pressed by Prime, we found the exact original concave they used back then and reshaped his deck and are now printing it in the same 4 color process as his original. I know Mike can and will embellish this story much better, it’s an honor to be a part of such a rad graghic, skater and history. Thanks @ocularge nad @keilabunny for helping set up the art on this one! Thanks @sergiotoledo for killing the screens and thanks to @swurvana and @chuck_hults for helping with production! Limited number of 100 are being made and will be available Sept. 30th!

Skateboarding has made its debut as an Olympic sport in Tokyo, part of a push by the powers-that-be to modernize the Games. DP (@dphschargers) graduates Frankie Hill (Class of ’90) and Mike Santarossa (’93) had the dedication and skills that might have put them into the Olympics, if skateboarding had received the recognition it does today.

Hill said, “I’m very proud and happy it’s evolved to become a big sport, but I feel a little sad that skaters today can’t have that feeling of originality. It was all about being different.” The rebel mindset that prevailed among skateboarders of their era conjures mixed emotions about joining the Olympic mainstream.

“We were outcasts,” Santarossa said. “I was one of four or five kids that rode skateboards in high school. Purists don’t see skateboarding as a sport but as an artistic lifestyle, a creative outlet. But there’s always been a competitive aspect.”
